Germany - living and working conditions

The information on living and working conditions in the EURES Job Mobility Portal is provided by the public employment services in the EEA countries and Switzerland with the aim of providing a concise overview of practical, legal and administrative matters of importance when considering moving to a particular country. More detailed information can be obtained by following the links to other Internet sites, or from organisations and contact points mentioned in the text.

Labour market information, which is also provided by the public employment services, indicates at national and regional levels the sectors where there is a significant imbalance between labour demand and job demand in both the shorter and longer term. General descriptions of the national and regional labour markets is also to be found in this section.

The information is updated regularly.

Free movement of persons is one of the fundamental freedoms guaranteed by Community law and includes the right to live and work in another Member State. It is an essential element of the Internal Market and of European citizenship. After enlargements on 1 January 2007 and 1 May 2004, there are transitional periods limiting the free movement of workers from new Member states as set out in the Accession Treaties.

The "Free movement" section in the EURES job mobility portal provides information on how the transitional arrangements are applied in the different Member States.

A general description of the transitional arrangements can be found by following this link: http://europa.eu.int/comm/employment_social/free_movement/docs/pr_en.pdf
